Coney Island's Firehouse Style Chili-Con-Carne
Pete got the recipe for his Chili-con-carne while sitting in the upper deck at Wrigley Field in Chicago, back in 1998. Sitting next to him at a Cubs-Cardinals game was a Chicago fireman named Thomas. Pete never did get his last name, but he did remember the recipe! Pete told Thomas how he makes Texas Wieners back in Scranton and when the subject turn to chili sauce, Thomas told Pete how he has to cook for 16 hungry fireman on his shift. They all say his is the best. He gave Pete the recipe, telling him that all he asks for in return is to credit the Chicago Fire Department for the it. His recipe calls for 10 lbs. of ground beef, diced onions, No. 10 cans of diced tomatoes, tomato puree, red kidney beans and secret spices. 'Not too hot, just right.', says Thomas. The Cardinals lost that game, but Pete came home with a winner! Stop in and try some soon! |
