The New Hilton Hotel
This page contains my collection of pictures of the construction of the new Hilton Hotel at Lackawanna and Adams avenues. The hotel was completed 17 August 2003 and is now open for business! 15 August 2003 With the opening of the Hilton 18 August 2003, I got in today for my last construction pictures. The next pictures I take will be of me at the bar downing a frosty one ;-). Here's a look at how the hotel as completed:
The grand staircase in the main lobby as seen from PJ's 1910 Pub.

A view of the lobby and main desk from the top of the Grand Staircase.
This is a view of the gym.
Here's a view of the indoor pool.
Here's a look at the laundry. Not my favorite job around the house, but I wouldn't mind doing it here!
This is a photo of the conference rooms lobby on the second floor. the conference rooms of varying sizes sit astride this hall.
This is a shot of the Casey Ballroom. I wish I had a wide angle lens to show the real size and scope of this great room.
Here is a photo of two of the conference rooms, the Mayfield and Jessup Rooms. All the conference rooms were named after towns up and down the Lackawanna Valley. Each room is adorned with photos of their named town. Nice Idea!
This is the state-of-the-art amphitheatre. It was very close to being finished the day I was there.
Here's a view of the conference center's lobby.
Two plasma HDTV's are mounted in the conference centers lobby as well as a pantry.
In there is the Blakely Room.
Here is a shot of the conference centers service desk as well as the atrium skylights on the second floor lobby.
Forgive my flash. This is the third floor elevator lobby.
Pepsi is the beverage of choice at the Hilton.
Here's a look at one of the rooms. Once again I beg forgiveness on not manually using my flash.
This is a brighter shot of the room with all is amenities displayed.
Everything is in its place in the bathrooms.
The bar at PJ's `910 Pub awaits its liquor license (will be in time for opening day), so that the booze can be displayed.

Fire suppression equipment has been installed in the kitchen. The stoves, grills and fryers are in there places.
Food prep areas are taking shape.
One of the dishwashers is online.
Walk-in cooler and freezer are in and ready to go.

Hilton logo on the south side and the name Hilton is added to the east side of the hotel by crane. **** 26 June 2003 Took a look around today and found lots of good stuff. So scroll down and see what's new!
This is a view you'll see upon entering the lobby area. Mounted on the wall is a stone crest of the old Casey Hotel. It was removed from the top floor of the Casey and saved for it's new home.
The amphitheatre is now fully wired and ready for final touches.
Workers continue assembly of the bar area of PJ's Pub. I can't wait to down a frosty cold ale this summer!
This view is of the main entrance as seen from PJ's Pub and Eatery looking towards the lobby. All cooking for the restaurants will be done under this 20 foot long hood system. While I was there the workers were assembling the walk in coolers as well as prep and storage areas, too.
Room floors are all carpeted and housekeeping is busy setting up the rooms.
Bathroom fixtures are installed and looking shiny! Carpeting and drapery are done. Furniture has arrived and awaits assembly.
Second floor lobby area nears completion.
Sidewalks as well as the driveway to the lobby drop-off are all finished now. Note the lighting above the first floor. They shine up the front of the building. Very sharp! **** 15 June 2003
Sidewalks are all done, as well as traffic light installation.
This view is of the sidewalks on the Lackawanna Avenue side of the Hilton. **** 28 May 2003
These curbs were laid by a machine that takes a stiffer concrete mix and forms it into perfect curbs, without forms. Very high tech. **** 15 May 2003 Back inside for some updates. Here's the latest:
Work on the adjoining Casey Garage is progressing, with all new lighting and painting.
It's hard to see, but workers are cutting blacktop to prepare for new sidewalks.
P.J.'s Pub is now got its walls sheet rocked and starting to show form.
Here's the Pub from another angle.
Up to the second floor where the lobby and atrium are really looking good.
Hardwood crown, base and wainscoting pieces await installation.
Moldings really set off one of the large conference rooms.
Wallpaper is finished in the rooms and halls on all floors. Carpeting and furnishings are next! **** 7 April 2003 Workmen lower the last of the scaffolding as all facade work is now complete.
**** 20 March 2003 I was back inside the Hilton for another tour and this is what I saw:
Almost all rooms are now with wallpaper and popcorn texture ceiling in place.
The hallways now have wainscotings and are ready for wallpaper.
This is one of the seventh floor suite's Jacuzzi. Here is a detail of one of the conference rooms. This ceiling will be finished in wood to give a barrel effect.
These frame boxes will hold the chandeliers in the Grand Ballroom.
Excuse the dust on the lens. This is a shot of the beginnings of P. J.'s 1910 Pub, one of the hotels two restaurants.
Here work goes on in the 74 seat amphitheatre. The ceiling and wall will support a state of the art sound and video system.
This view is of the fine dining restaurant, Trolleys Bistro. That's my tour guide, Lori, on the right.
This area will contain the kitchen, food storage and service areas for the Bistro.
Work on the lobby area continues as the main desk takes shape.
Got to go on my first ride in the service elevator. Sure beats hoofing it up to the seventh floor. . ;-) **** 20 February 2003 Took another tour of the new Hilton and are things moving now! Check it out:
The Lackawanna Avenue facade is now complete. This was done under some of the roughest winter conditions in years!
Drywall is being loaded through one of the restaurants window on the Lackawanna Avenue side.
Please excuse the condensation on my lens. It was another cold day in Scranton. This is a shot of one of the large conference rooms on the second floor.
This is the Grand Staircase in the main lobby area. You can see the skylights in the ceiling of the second floor atrium.
This is a shot of the 2nd floor atrium. I can report that all drywall is up and spackled in all the conference rooms. Frame work for the ceilings now awaits its coat of drywall.
Out a third floor window you can see that all HVAC systems are in place. Those four skylights are over the second floor atrium.
All upper floors are drywall covered and spackled and only in need of their final coverings.
Workers were tiling the bathrooms on the forth floor. Nice work!
Finished floor tile job in another bathroom. **** 19 December 2002 Today I was invited to explore the inside of the new Hilton by their kind staff. Boy, what a treat. check out the latest photos:
Please excuse the moisture on the lens, it was cold outside and warm inside. This is a photo of the lobby area.
Lobby area looking up at the 2nd floor skylights.
This photo shows the area of the hotels pub and restaurant. It will have great views of Adams and Lackawanna Avenues. This is place to be during the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade!
The skylights on the second floor conference rooms. There is plenty of room for some big parties up here!
Work progresses on one of the conference romms.
After looking out the pub windows, I hopped up to the seventh floor and snapped this picture. This narrow view doesn't come close to the panoramic views afforded by this lofty perch. One of Scranton's best features is that it sits in a valley nestled between beautiful mountains. I hope I can get a room up here for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. It comes right down Lackawanna Avenue towards the hotel.
Panning north, behind the red building is Coney Island. In the center, is the under-construction Art Gallery and in the foreground is the site of a proposed office complex/450 space parking garage!
Still on the 7th floor looking southeast, more great views, including the restored Erie Lackawanna train station.
Same view with the walls covered!
